Happy almost-Spring! With the pollen already teasing our southern noses, I’ve been working on some new floral patterns this past week and wanted to share a helpful tip! As a creative who loves working with textures, transparencies and organic shapes, I tend to create my patterns as raster (or pixel-based) first. This gives me the freedom to create my patterns exactly as I want them without being limited by the more flat-style aesthetic that comes with vectors. There are times when a vector pattern may be needed, though, and luckily it’s a pretty easy process to take a seamless pattern that’s pixel based (yes, even jpgs!) and convert them into vector art. In today’s tutorial, I show the process of exporting both a full drop and half brick pattern I made in Procreate and fully vectorize them using Illustrator. Once vectorized, we convert them into a seamlessly repeating pattern swatch and test them out (one of my favorite parts!). Even if you’ve never used Illustrator before, this is a straightforward, beginner-friendly process that can really work to your advantage if ever needed ✨ Happy Tuesday! 🌷 |
